Jan 7th Busting Breast Cancer Briefings at Sunbanque Locations
“Breast Cancer has now become an unnecessary disease”, according to Susan Wadia-Ells, founding director of the National Breast Cancer Prevention Project.
On Saturday January 7th , Wadia-Ells of Manchester, MA, will discuss research on why: higher levels of Vitamin D3; avoiding contraceptive drugs; having an annual thermogram and changing your diet, can virtually eliminate your ability to develop breast cancer tumors.
Saturday’s briefings will take place at the Sunbanque Tanning Salons as follows:
11:00 am 156 Prospect Streeet, Gloucester – Tel. 978-281-4442
1:00 pm Enon Street / Route 1A, Super Stop & Shop Plaza, North Beverly – Tel. 978-712-4821
3:00 pm 595 Chickering Road (Route 125/33), North Andover – Tel. 978-685-7786
So much of what we teach women, regarding how to stop breast cancer before it starts, goes against everything Americans have been told by commercial sunblock advertising and by pharmaceutical companies, said Wadia-Ells. For example, women are shocked to find that using safe year-round tanning and stopping contraceptive drugs, no matter what your age, will help reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.
Know Breast Cancer’s website and Wadia-Ells’ forthcoming book explain that the most significant way to help stop breast cancer from happening, is to raise your vitamin D3 blood level. This is best done by allowing the sun to slowly and safely tan your skin, all year round. In Massachusetts this means that every woman, with a skin type that can tan, needs to spend time in the summer sun, without any sun block, for short periods of time as UVB rays activate enough melanin to create a natural protective tan. Using short but regular amounts of indoor tanning time from September through May enables the body to continue making vitamin D3 year-round. Taking Vitamin D3 supplements is a slower but effective way to help raise and maintain optimal D3 blood levels of 60 ng/ml-80 ng/ml .
“Everything we will share with women at Saturday’s briefing is backed up by objective, professional and long standing research,” said Wadia-Ells. Participants at Saturday’s free briefing will also receive copies of recent studies linking year-round tanning with lower breast cancer rates, how to begin to enjoy a cancer-blocking daily diet, and why using contraceptive drugs can increase your risk of developing breast cancer, especially if you are over 40 years old. A list of thermography services north of Boston, will also be available.
“Holding this information session at Sunbanque, will help women understand that Know Breast Cancer is serious about encouraging women to learn how to develop and benefit from safe year-round tanning and how to choose non-toxic sun block products,” said Wadia-Ells.
Dr. Mercola Interviews Carole Baggerly: Discuss Know Breast Cancer & Vitamin D3
I was thrilled that Know Breast Cancer’s good friend, Carole Baggerly, founding director of Grassroots Health in San Diego, and public education director for Dr Cedric Garland’s Vitamin D3 research, was interviewed by Dr. Joseph Mercola, the creator of the #1 health blog, mercola.com last week.
Carole did Know Breast Cancer proud by describing us as THE ONLY national breast cancer organization that is educating women about the importance of using high levels of Vitamin D3 for breast cancer prevention.
Carole also noted that Know Breast Cancer is one of the only breast cancer education groups to help women understand the importance and the safety of having an annual thermogram to help prevent breast cancer.
See the interview in it’s entirety: Know Breast Cancer is mentioned during the last ten minutes of the tape. She saved the best for last!!!
Remember.. memorize your current vitamin D3 blood level, found when you have a simple hydroxy 25 blood test. The test can be ordered by your physician and should be covered by medical insurance.
If you don’t have medical insurance, go to www.grassrootshealth.net and order your own test on line. You can also become part of a research project that Grassroots Health is currently conducting.
Meanwhile.. begin to get lots of sun (a half hour a day if you live in a southern climate or when it is summer time in your northern climate) Also it is critical to take lots of vitamin D3 supplements until you reach the magic 60-80 ng/ml level.
This rise in your Vitamin D3 blood level can take a few years, esp if you are over 50 and live in a cold northern climate…. where the sun don’t shine much of the time
Also: The importance of knowing your Vitamin D3 level is critical to knowing which level vitamin D3 supplements you need to take, to bring your blood level up to a breast cancer-fighting level – 60/80 ng/ml.
Rule of Thumb: If you are currently below 50 ng/ml.. take 5,000 to 10,000 IUs a day for six months to a year and check your numbers again.
Busting Breast Cancer North of Boston
How can a lone woman help stop breast cancer before it starts?
1. MEMORIZE your Vitamin D3 (sunshine vitamin) blood level! The magic number to help stop breast cancer tumors from forming is 60/80 ng/ml.
Don’t assume your doctor knows the latest research on how vitamin D3 can stop breast cancer before it starts.
2. EAT low hormone foods EVERY DAY
Think miso soup, tempeh and other fermented organic soy products; Think organic milk (no rBGH) and drink/eat very little dairy no matter what; think smart chickens, fed no hormones or antibiotics .
3. STOP using birth control DRUGS, especially if you are over 40.
All recent research indicates that birth control drugs are increasing the rate of breast cancers in younger women across the U.S. . Using an IUD or having your tubes tied is safer, more effective and less expensive.
Last week , The National Breast Cancer Prevention Project/Know Breast Cancer launched our first Busting Breast Cancer Initiative on Boston’s North Shore, at the gorgeous Rockport Art Association - donated for the event.
The most startling slide, according to Busting Breast Cancer’s Rockport team leader, Lisa Vincent, for those attending was:
Here’s what Lisa had to say:
Massachusetts has the 5th highest breast cancer rate of all 50 states.
Essex County (north of Boston) has the 3rd highest rate in the state.
Since breast cancer is rarely caused by one event or a single long-term toxic exposure, here are some logical possibilities:
1.Essex County is one of the highest income areas in the state.. and more money allows you to hire professional cleaners for your house, car and gardens , probably using toxic chemicals; more money allows you to go to a doctor who may recommend using birth control drugs and HRT drugs for many reasons; more money enables you to have annual mammograms before and after menopause. Research shows that mammograms increase risk of developing breast cancer and do not extend mortality rates.
2. Shallow municipal water sources on North Shore, combining chlorine with twigs and other organic matter, create toxic water for bathing and drinking.
3. The cold climate, October through May, with weak sunshine over these eight months keeps average vitamin D3 blood levels low.
Jane Stephens, breast cancer warrior, and volunteer for the Essex County Busting Breast Cancer Initiative stands beside the Charles Movalli original oil painting donated in honor of Carleen Muniz (1947-2009). Movalli’s painting is valued at 6k by most galleries.
Raffle Tickets are $25@, available online until October 23rd – when the grand prize drawing will take place at NBCPP’s Know Breast Cancer Month Reception, Sunday October 23rd from 3pm – 6pm, at the North Shore Art Association, in East Gloucester MA at 2 pm, featuring the Honky Tonk Women
New Vitamin D3 mouse study smells fishy
Millions of dollars are again being spent to scare the public away from taking effective level of vitamin D3 supplements, that can block the development of invasive breast cancer in U.S. women.
Last summer Big Pharma sponsored a Vitamin D3 report by experts, most of whom currently received significant income from pharmaceutical companies, that ignored twenty years of solid research on the many benefits enjoyed by Americans taking much much higher levels of vitamin D3. Using the Institute of Medicine, a pharmaceutical-industry funded organization, the July 2010 report urged Americans to limit their intake of Vitamin D3 to 1,000 IUs or less per day.
Now someone is paying big bucks to publicize a small mouse study out of Georgetown University Hospital, that mentions how high levels of vitamin D3… although clearly helpful in stopping most types of breast cancer, was not helpful for skinny mice who were “pre-destined” to develop one type of estrogen negative breast cancer. This.. after feeding the poor mice 15,000 IUs or more of vitamin D3 a day!
It will be important to see what leading Vitamin D3 researcher at University of California’s Moores Cancer Center or their education organization Grassroots Health, or the Vitamin D Council, or researchers at Sunlight, Nutrition and Health Research or the well-respected Vitamin D researcher, Dr Michael Holick, at Boston University has to say about this latest publicity effort to limit Americans’ intake of this inexpensive food supplement that can help stop breast and colon cancer and many other conditions before they start. See Dr Cedric Garland’s video on how higher levels of vitamin D3 protects against these types of cancers in humans.
Remember… as more and more Americans use adequate levels of inexpensive Vitamin D3 supplements to protect ourselves from breast and colon cancers, the pharmaceutical companies lose billions of dollars each year in chemotherapy sales.
U. S. Breast Cancer Epidemic Hitting Young Moms and Other Women of Childbearing Age
In 2009, about 62,520 women of childbearing age in the United States were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. This is a whopping 41% increase from 2001, when approximately 44, 300 women of childbearing age were reportedly diagnosed with the disease, according to recent American Cancer Society statistics.
These younger American women are being hit with triple negative, HER2 positive and estrogen positive breast cancers; diseases that usually maim, sometimes kill and often bankrupt a woman’s current and future financial situation.
In recent years young media leaders and celebrities have shared their personal breast cancer diagnoses, including Fox News political reporter Jennifer Griffin (triple negative); ABC’s Good Morning America host, Robin Roberts (triple negative); National Public Radio’s Tavis Smiley Show Executive Producer, Sheryl Flowers, who died from triple negative breast cancer in 2009 at the age of 42, folksinger Melissa Ethridge (HER2 positive) and film star, Christina Applegate.
Why is this new epidemic happening to our younger women? How can younger women help stop breast cancer from happening to them ever… or never again?

Birth Control Pills Now Linked to Triple Negative Breast Cancer
Recent research out of Seattle shows a disturbingly strong link between young women (40 years and younger) who used oral contraceptives and their tendency to develop triple negative breast cancer, a rapidly growing estrogen-negative type of the disease.
Among women (40 years and younger) the relative risk for triple-negative breast cancer associated with oral contraceptive use (of more than one year ) was 4.2. (95%confidence interval, 1.9-9.3)
This study, Risk Factors for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer in Women Under the Age of 45 Years, involving over 1,000 women, led by Jessica M. Dolle, at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, and published in the academic journal, Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention in April of last year, did not find a similar link between other kinds of breast cancer and the use of oral contraceptives in this same group of breast cancer patients.

Most types of breast cancer seem to be caused by a cocktail of various ingredients that appear to be unique to each person, that mixed together can create a perfect toxic storm.
Triple Negative breast cancer strikes younger women more often than older women, and strikes black women at double the rate of white women. Younger black women are currently the most at- risk population for developing this type of breast cancer.
Sadly 90+% of the dollars earmarked for triple negative breast cancer research, by Susan G Komen for the Cure, by the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, by government and other private grant makers are only focused on developing expensive drugs that can “find a cure” for this disease.
Last week a recent market research report predicted that by 2018 a new breast cancer drug, BSI-201 will enjoy $1.7 billion in worldwide sales, with special potential for the triple negative market.
www.drugstorenews.com/story.aspx?id=131607&menuid=345
For women fighting this disease, this is wonderful news as such drugs can be critical. But we also need to figure out how to stop triple negative breast cancer before it starts... even if there is no $1.7 billion drug at the end of the rainbow.
Audre Lorde, poet, lesbian, feminist leader, African American and author of The Cancer Journals, who died in 1992 after a fourteen-year struggle with breast cancer, was one of the first to notice society’s interest in profit making, rather than in trying to stop breast cancer before it starts.
…what would happen if an army of one-breasted women descended upon Congress and demanded that the use of carcinogenic, fat-stored hormones in beef-feed be outlawed?
Each year, about 30,000 women in the U.S. are now being diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and this number continues to grow. Most of these women are younger than 40 and more than 15% of these young women are black.
We need to ask foundations and government agencies to fund Jessica Dolle and other cancer prevention researchers as they try to understand more about what chemicals, foods and drugs are causing all of this triple negative.
Meanwhile, do not expect your birth control pack to mention Dolle’s recent research linking birth control drugs to triple negative breast cancer; in fact do not expect the American Cancer Society or even most major breast cancer foundations to breathe a word of Dolle’s 2009 study.
Birth control pills and breast cancer drugs are both multi-billion dollar a year markets. The pharmaceutical companies that sell these drugs also give many millions of dollars each year to the American Cancer Society, Komen and other. Few organizations, I suppose, want to bite the hands that feed them.
From a practical, personal point of view, younger women who want to continue using birth control pills should counterbalance their risk of developing triple negative by getting a Vitamin D3 blood test.. and taking 2,000 IUs or more of Vitamin D3 supplements every day until your blood test shows you have a level of 60-80 ng/ml of vitamin D3. New research shows that this level of vitamin D3 should protect a huge majority of all women against developing all types of breast cancer.

Thinking of Sara Palin and Breast Health Centers…or..”Why our hospitals don’t talk about real or natural breast cancer prevention
January 5, 2010
Manchester by the Sea, MA
Our local Breast ” Health” Centers, located in medical centers, community hospitals and free-standing clinics around the U.S., currently do next to nothing about educating women on how to keep our breasts naturally healthy.
You can put lipstick on a pig, but as Sara says, “It’s still a pig.”
Breast “Health” Centers are currently breast cancer diagnostic centers; places where women are given screening x-rays and possibly more diagnostic x-rays in the form of mammograms or MRIs with toxic dyes, along with needle aspirations, and lumpectomies.
But real breast health is something different. Now that we know so much more about how breast cancer begins or grows; now that we know so much more about how to actually limit the number of women who ever develop breast cancer; it’s time for medical centers to also set up real Breast Health Centers or real Breast Cancer Prevention Centers.
Real or natural breast cancer prevention is no longer rocket science; getting the word out to women seems to be a more difficult task.
Here is a sampling of what real Breast Health Centers could offer women today:
- A blood test to determine your vitamin D3 levels with info sessions on how much vitamin D3 and calcium supplements you should be taking every day to gradually reach the new recommended level of 60-80 ng/ml of vitamin D3 in your blood serum levels.
For more info on how 60-89 ng/ml of vitamin D3 can amazingly block the first stage of breast cancer development, go to Easy Way #1 at www.knowbreastcancer.net
- Individualized birth control counseling for women over 40, to help you switch off of birth control pills, patches, rings and estrogen-based IUDs. Women in their 40′s, who still use these drugs, significantly raise their risk of developing aggressive estrogen negative breast cancers.
To see some of the research showing that contraceptive drugs are considered unsafe for women over 40 years of age, go to Easy Way #3 at www.knowbreastcancer.net
- Cooking classes for women who want to include dairy-free recipes and other breast cancer-protecting foods, such as Japanese miso and fermented black beans in their families’ daily meals. The Japanese and Chinese, with their dairy-free diets and numerous fermented soy dishes, have one third the breast cancer rates of North American and Northern European women!
For more info on how organic fermented soy foods can be more effective and safer than taking Tamoxifen or Arimidex, see Easy Way #6 at www.knowbreastcancer.net
- Education groups for women who want to put less alcohol, less nicotine and less sugar into their bodies each day. This is obviously not an easy task, but offering such support under the label of breast cancer prevention, will take some of the stigma out of treating these dangerous lifestyles. Using one or more of these toxins every day can triple a woman’s risk level if trying to avoid a second breast cancer diagnosis. Carrying twenty extra pounds of fat can double any older woman’s risk of developing invasive breast cancer. Also heavy drinking and/or any level of smoking appear to cancel out any protection offered from Vitamin D3 supplementation.
For the latest research on alcohol, smoking, excess body fat and increased breast cancer risk levels, go to Easy Way #7 at www.knowbreastcancer.net
This is all pretty sobering, exciting and hopeful info, but sadly don’t expect our local medical centers to open up any real Breast Health Centers any day soon.
Why not??!
A real or natural Breast Health Center is a low-tech, low-profit service, geared to decreasing the number of community women who will ever develop breast cancer. For these two reasons alone, medical centers do not believe it is in their financial self interest to create such centers.
Remember… most non-profit and for-profit medical centers and clinics operate as for-profit corporations. Executives are often paid a six or seven figure income when they are able to snuff out competing medical centers, recruit more cancer patients, and continue to offer highly profitable medical services to these individuals until they die.
Until we have a health care system that is detached from any profit motives (such as your local fire department is) where people’s health (your burning home) comes before corporate profits, medical centers will never be interested in sponsoring real breast health centers.
