Busting Breast Cancer North of Boston

How can a lone woman help stop breast cancer before it starts?

1. MEMORIZE your Vitamin D3 (sunshine vitamin) blood level! The magic number to help stop breast cancer tumors from forming is  60/80 ng/ml.

Don’t assume your doctor knows  the latest research on how vitamin D3 can  stop breast cancer before it starts.

2. EAT low hormone foods EVERY DAY

Think miso soup, tempeh and other fermented organic soy products; Think organic milk (no rBGH) and drink/eat  very little  dairy no matter what; think smart chickens,  fed no hormones or antibiotics .

3. STOP using birth control DRUGS, especially if you are over 40.

All recent research indicates that birth control drugs are  increasing the rate of breast cancers in younger women across the U.S. . Using an  IUD  or having your tubes tied is safer, more effective and less expensive.

Last week , The National Breast Cancer Prevention Project/Know Breast Cancer launched our first Busting Breast Cancer Initiative on Boston’s North Shore, at the gorgeous Rockport Art Association -  donated  for the event.

The most startling slide, according to Busting Breast Cancer’s Rockport team leader, Lisa Vincent, for those  attending was:

Here’s what Lisa had to say:

Massachusetts has the 5th highest breast cancer rate of all 50 states.

Essex County (north of Boston) has the 3rd highest rate in the state.

Since breast cancer is rarely caused by one event or a single long-term toxic exposure, here are some logical possibilities:

1.Essex County is one of the highest income areas in the state.. and more money allows you to hire professional cleaners for your house, car and gardens , probably using toxic chemicals; more money allows you to go to a doctor who may recommend using birth control drugs and HRT drugs for many reasons; more money enables you to have annual mammograms before and after menopause. Research shows that mammograms increase risk of developing breast cancer and do not extend mortality rates.

2. Shallow municipal water sources on North Shore, combining chlorine with twigs and other organic matter, create toxic water for bathing and drinking.

3. The cold climate,   October through May,  with weak sunshine over these eight months keeps average vitamin D3 blood levels low.

Jane Stephens, breast cancer warrior, and volunteer for the Essex County Busting Breast Cancer Initiative stands beside the Charles Movalli original oil painting donated in honor of Carleen Muniz (1947-2009).  Movalli’s painting is valued at 6k by most galleries.

Raffle Tickets are $25@,  available online until October 23rd – when the grand prize drawing will take place at  NBCPP’s  Know Breast Cancer Month Reception, Sunday October 23rd from 3pm – 6pm, at the North Shore Art Association,  in East Gloucester MA at 2 pm, featuring the Honky Tonk Women

STOP Keep plastics out of your microwave & dishwasher

Still pooh-poohing those friends or mothers who keep saying… stop microwaving food in any kind of plastic container.

If you still put plastic containers in your dishwasher and say, What the heck!

Those are two silly things to do if you are trying to follow a better-safe-than-sorry lifestyle. …. it’s just that all of these bits and pieces of chemical estrogens that shed off of your plastic containers add up….
Then .. poof you are the 1 in 5 woman in Massachusetts or the 1 in 8 woman in North Carolina or Iowa who ends up with a diagnosis of invasive breast cancer.

“Why me?” you ask.

Not any one single thing is going to give you breast cancer. Research tells us it is that cocktail effect that can catch up with us , if we don’t watch out… or even if we do.

• A hard hit spray of DDT when you were 14
Birth control pills since you were 20… and now you are 40 and still using
• Microwaving a meal a day in your favorite plastic containers
• Washing plastic utensils and dishes in the dishwasher every day
• Not knowing your current vitamin D3 level (it should be between 60ng/ml & 80 ng/ml if you want that protective layer of gardol… remember gardol ??!

Your toxic cocktail is getting pretty thick with early and ongoing assaults with chemical estrogens in your earlier years and in your current everyday life.

Why not try a better- safe- than- sorry lifestyle today…. and eliminate three of these four toxins from your life right now.

The life you save can be your own.

American Cancer Society Report is Misleading; younger women getting more triple negative, estrogen positive & HER2+ breast cancers

Women of childbearing age, in many states around the U.S. today, face historically high invasive breast cancer levels. The American Cancer Society’s (ACS’) recent study, published Feb 22, in the American Association for Cancer Research, is incorrect when it says breast cancer rates are not changing for younger women.

In Massachusetts, younger women (under 50), saw a 45% increase in invasive breast cancer between 1995-2007; younger women in Colorado saw a 27% increase between 1990-2008, and younger women in Florida saw a 40% increase between 1984-2008.

The American Cancer Society’s February, 2011 report doesn’t count the actual number of women diagnosed in each state; instead, it uses an estimate, based on a formula, based on 9% of the U.S. population.

To know the real story, we need to count every woman who is affected, and we need to have those numbers published for all of us to see and understand.

Contact you state cancer board and ask them how many younger women developed invasive breast cancers last year, compared to the past five or ten years. Also ask them, how many of these younger women were diagnosed with triple negative, HER2+ and estrogen receptor positive breast cancers.

We need this specific information, not estimates. Keeping women in the dark when it comes to these critical numbers, makes it impossible to measure any positive changes, as women try easy and healthy ways to stop breast cancer before it starts.

U. S. Breast Cancer Epidemic Hitting Young Moms and Other Women of Childbearing Age

In   2009, about 62,520 women of childbearing age in the United States were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.  This is a whopping 41% increase from 2001, when approximately 44, 300 women of childbearing age were reportedly diagnosed with the disease, according to recent American Cancer Society statistics.

These younger American women are being hit with triple negative, HER2 positive and estrogen positive breast cancers; diseases  that usually maim, sometimes kill and often bankrupt a woman’s current and future financial situation.

In recent years young media leaders and celebrities have shared their personal breast cancer diagnoses, including Fox News political reporter Jennifer Griffin (triple negative); ABC’s Good Morning America host,  Robin Roberts (triple negative); National Public Radio’s Tavis Smiley Show Executive Producer,  Sheryl Flowers, who died from triple negative breast cancer in 2009 at the age of 42, folksinger Melissa Ethridge (HER2 positive) and film star, Christina Applegate.

Why is this new epidemic happening to our younger women? How can younger women help stop breast cancer from happening to them ever… or never again?
